This final report provides a synthesis of experiences elicited from the ICONS project. The primary objective is to provide a comprehensive insight into the project objectives, results and resources to establish a background for lessons learned in this project. By the lessons learned we mean some patterns of behaviour that applied in the ICONS project turned out to be very effective or, oppositely, harmful and distracting. Additionally, the lessons learned must be generic to provide a chance to be used (or avoided) by other parties, in other projects. We believe such a synthetic view on the ICONS project, which is considered by its participants as a very successful, can be a source of valuable knowledge both for pending and further projects as well as for ICONS participants. The lessons learned are also of interest to the ICONS consortium as their preparation stimulates objective analysis and assessment of the way the consortium went through.
This final report assumes managerial approach as complementary views are provided by other reports: [ ICONS D01b, second edition] (ICONS project results) giving amply presentation of essential project results and [ICONS D34] (Technology Implementation Plan, TIP) stressing exploitation and business opportunities.
