This report is to show the progress achieved within the period between 1 July and 15 October 2003. It complements the ICONS managerial report covering the third ICONS semester (from 1 January till 31 June 2003) [ICONS D31]. As the period of interest is relatively short we decided to concentrate mainly on the achievements and to neglect aspects like resources consumed, dissemination, project management, which are amply treated in [ICONS D31]. Please note also that the results presented here were not produced in the period of interest but rather were completed in this period based on the effort undertaken in the previous periods.
The ICONS project entered its 4th and final semester. Indeed, the progress achieved to mid October 2003 really reflects process of the project completion. Almost all the research is done, most of platform development (excluding maintenance) is done. The remaining part covers demonstration and verification of the achieved results viability through development of the Structural Fund Project Knowledge Portal. Even more important is preparation to the achieved results further exploitation by industrialisation and commercialisation. Only conscious actions in this area will allow paying off the investments done.
The ICONS platform development is complete within the defined scope. Technical design of modules developed and enhanced is presented in reports [ICONS D13] and [ICONS 21]. Although completed in this increment the list of possible improvements proposal is defined and put into maintenance process.
[ICONS D13] together with the revised versions of [ICONS D11] and [ICONS D12] complete Graphic User Interface workpackage.
[ICONS D20] has been completed and addresses aspects of information system integration and distributed workflow process integration.
The development of the Structural Fund Project Knowledge Portal speeds up after overcoming initial problems (identification of these problems during prototype application development can not be overestimated). At the time being (mid October) more than 50% of its functionality is available and the application can be presented to the public. Current efforts, despite normal development, are dedicated to getting access to the appropriate structural fund pertinent data.
Dissemination and exploitation except normal publication activities resulted in the first commercial benefits! First of all we applied the ICONS enhanced workflow engine in e-governmant and industrial portals. Secondly innovative ICONS knowledge management conceptions turned to be appreciated in the bid for Polish - European Commission electronic mail system for Polish Ministry of Scientific Research and Information Technology. These examples of early successful exploitation of ICONS results make the development team even more determined in further industrialisation and commercialisation of the achieved results.
